Reiki is an ancient system of natural healing developed thousands of years ago in Tibet and rediscovered in Japan by a Dr Usui in the early twentieth century. Reiki means literally, universal energy, and basically uses natural energy to activate/assist the healing process.

Today, many people are realising that they have a choice whether to accept the potentially negative health effects of their stressful lifestyles or to take responsibility for their own wellbeing and actively look for ways to reduce and prevent symptoms such as muscle tension, tiredness, stress headaches, and generally decreasing energy levels.

Energy can become blocked through stress or emotional upset and this can result in illness. Reiki can help release these blockages, cleanse the body of toxins and promote healing in the body and the mind. Reiki is a natural and powerful way of dealing with stress as it is a holistic system of balancing, healing and harmonising all aspects of a person, the body, mind, emotions and spirit. It is a safe, non manipulative and non invasive therapy and can provide a gentle and effortless way to connect with our inner selves. Reiki can allow us to respond more calmly to events, can enhance everyday life and is a gentle energy which can be used safely by all ages and levels of health including the newborn, pregnant, frail and elderly.
A Reiki treatment affects each individual in a very unique and personal way, whilst reinforcing our ability to take responsibility for our lives and helping us to make the changes in attitude and lifestyle necessary to promote happier and healthier lives

During a session the client lies down fully clothed, if this is not possible, they can be seated, wearing comfortable, loose clothing. The practitioner gently positions their hands in sequence over the client’s body. A full treatment is usually between forty five minutes and an hour. Usually the whole body is treated rather than specific symptoms, although specific areas can be targeted if required, it is believed that the energy will go to wherever it is most needed. It is also possible to work at a distance if this is required.
